HISTORY
Following an increase of television appearances, and receiving hundreds of messages from individuals who thought they were alone in their compulsion, Angela had a goal of making a website that brought attention to dermatillomania. In 2013, the Skin Picking Support site was created as a resource for those seeking information about skin picking, or wanting to connect with Angela Hartlin.
Due to Angela’s health challenges, Skin Picking Support became inactive, though still providing a valuable space for others to learn about excoriation disorder. As a response to the influx of new members joining skin picking forums during the pandemic, Angela created a facebook support group in October of 2020 to accommodate to the growing need for support during unprecedented times. Skin Picking Support‘s instagram page was launched shortly after.
The Skin Picking Support blog was expanded in late 2022 to offer community members the chance to share their stories. Angela continues to work towards elevating the voices of those affected by chronic skin picking by hosting support group meetings and creating new opportunities for members to get involved.
